Marquita Smooth-Sanders was born in the small town of Waynesboro,Ms. She moved to Slidell,LA in 2014, just a year before she married the love of her life, Kevin. She’s the daughter of the late Wilbert Smooth Jr., & Mavis Smooth. Marquita is a Christian who has always had a passion for singing, dancing, & acting. Marquita’s singing skills were groomed by her family; The Taylor Family, & The Dynamic Smooth family. She started out very young singing in her family’s Gospel group. At the age of 14, she appeared on stage at The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival with The Dynamic Smooth Family. She’s been on that stage every year since then in the GOSPEL tent. Marquita first took interest in theater in High School. The thrill of bringing a story, emotion, or feeling to life became exciting for her, so she decide to pursue a little more. Her acting skills were activated/groomed by Ms. Cindy Miller of Waynesboro; “New Kids on the Block”. They’d perform in stage plays within their community. They’d also perform dramas/skits in their churches. I’m 2017 at The Slidell Little Theater, Marquita made her first theater appearance in August Wilson’s “Gem of the Ocean”; directed by Mr. Will Williams. She played the role of BLACK MARY, & it was a wonderful experience. It was during this time her potential was recognized by one of the directors of Cutting Edge’s sold out show; “The Color Purple” where she played the role of Nettie. Marquita was extremely grateful to be working with such awesome actors, actresses, singers, and directors. She was excited about being one of the new faces at The Cutting Edge Theater. Here she is again taking on yet another role at Cutting Edge as one of “The Supremes”. She is again grateful to Mr. Brian for another opportunity to be apart of a great show.
