Marquita Smooth-Sanders was born in the small town of Waynesboro,Ms. She moved to Slidell,LA in 2014, just a year before she married the love of her life, Kevin. She’s the daughter of the late Wilbert Smooth Jr., & Mavis Smooth. Marquita is a Christian who has always had a passion for acting. High school is when she first took interest in theater. The thrill of bringing a story, emotion, or feeling to life became exciting for her, so she decide to pursue a little more. Marquita’s acting skills were activated/groomed by Ms. Cindy Miller of Waynesboro; “New Kids on the Block”. They’d perform in stage plays within their community. They’d also perform dramas/skits in their churches. Just last year at The Slidell Little Theater, Marquita made her debut in August Wilson’s “Gem of the Ocean”; directed by Mr. Will Williams. She played the role of BLACK MARY, & it was a wonderful experience. It was during this time her potential was recognized by one of the directors of “The Color Purple”; & here she is. Taking on the role of Nettie, Marquita is extremely grateful to be working with such awesome actors, actresses, singers, and directors. She is excited about being one of the new faces at The Cutting Edge Theater, and extremely grateful to Mr. Brian for the opportunity.
