Aaron “Black Magic” Turnipseed

Aaron “Black Magic” Turnipseed is excited to make his return as Musical Director here at the Cutting Edge. Native of Baton Rouge, Aaron graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University earning his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Music Performance and Visual Arts. As a musician, he has been a featured performer for the Alcorn State, Bill Evans, and New Orleans Jazz Festivals. Aaron has shared the stage with artist such as Jazz Pianist Bill Cunliffe and Ellis Marsalis, Saxophonist Eugene Rousseau, Bradford Marsalis, Clarence Johnson III, “Blue” Lou Marini, Clarinetist Dr. Ben Redwine and Julian Bliss, and Broadway vocalist Ivan Rutherford. Aaron has performed as a soloist at the Symphony Center Orchestra Hall in Chicago, Carnegie Hall in New York, and most recently at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. As an actor, he earned the leading role in South Pacific, Godspell and Little Shop of Horrors. Aaron was appointed Musical Director for the following: Chicago, Zombie Prom, The Unsinkable Molly Brown, Mary Poppins, Beauty and The Beast, and 13 Aaron serves as the Director of Choral Studies at Istrouma Magnet School.
